I haven't actually read it but what I've heard I like much better than Amy Chua's take.Karennoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9212501049425940906.post-16491045465366426632011-02-03T20:47:05.532-08:002011-02-03T20:47:05.532-08:00I was wondering what you thought about this :) For...I was wondering what you thought about this :) For some reason, I have that about Tiger mom everyday since the news broke out about her. Very thought provoking I must say.Vanessahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11350398250539985930noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9212501049425940906.post-53463791231195683432011-01-28T10:45:20.278-08:002011-01-28T10:45:20.278-08:00Yes, having followed this at motherlode at the NYT...Yes, having followed this at motherlode at the NYT's I am glad to read your thoughts on it, too. Having one asian parent - and i know its different since a. he's not a mom and b. he didnt live with us - i was so fascinated by this article. like you, there are things i didnt agree with and things i found very thought-provoking. especially the idea that the reason asian parents are harsh is that they come from the pov that their child CAN do everything they demand. i dont think this is all true, but interesting nonetheless.B.https://www.blogger.com/profile/10420377377859515581noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9212501049425940906.post-25698486755062817992011-01-27T17:29:00.922-08:002011-01-27T17:29:00.922-08:00Colbert killing it:

I have similar issues with my kids getting frustated when things don't just come easily to them. I try to keep my comments/encouragement/praise focused on their effort (not their innate awesome brain power) but it's an exercise not to revert to that mindset.Stephaniehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04764476062238501778noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9212501049425940906.post-87926812668462596282011-01-27T14:03:43.854-08:002011-01-27T14:03:43.854-08:00Yesterday's Austin American Statesman had an a...Yesterday's Austin American Statesman had an article by a Mom who banished all electronic gadgets from their home for .... 6 months! Six whole months with no TV, no iPods, no email, etc. The report was more than encouraging. The kids played interactive games with (gasp!) each other, they played sports outside, got along better, etc. Reminded me of our own household when the kids were little. We had none of those gadgets, and ours grew up just fine. I think a return to some aspects of the former days of child rearing would do this country a lot of good.JoAnnhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10944313634480776004noreply@blogger.com
