Winner! And Another Giveaway

Yes, that's right ... two giveaways in one week. But before I announce the next one, we have a winner for the Upcycled Word drawing. Eclectic Mama, come on down and choose your prize!

Now. Consider the following.

1. It's Friday.
2. It's Mother's Day weekend, and most of you (I think) are mothers, have a mother, or have had a mother.
3. I just found out that The Happy Hollisters is back in print. Gee whillikers! (Second only to Trixie Belden in my estimation ... any other fans out there? Although, in the process of finding out about The Happy Hollisters, the scales fell from my eyes: Did you know that Franklin W. Dixon (purported author of The Hardy Boys) and Laura Lee Hope (ostensible writer of The Bobbsey Twins) are really just pseudonyms for a team of writers? Did everyone know this except for me? Are you all laughing smugly right now at my naiveté?)
4. I tend to digress a lot.
5. I love to walk into my kitchen in the morning and light my clean-burning peppermint candle from Way Out Wax. It wakes me up in the cheeriest of ways -- better than coffee!
6. Way Out Wax is a small, socially/environmentally responsible Vermont-based company that uses 100% essential oils in their products -- no synthetic fragrances or additives.
7. Way Out Wax  is also very generous.

For all these reasons, one of you will be getting $25 worth of aromatherapeutic candles, all-natural bug spray, clean air spray, pet shampoo (!) or whatever tickles your fancy from Way Out Wax!

Take a look: lots of great scents, or even non-scented candles, if that's your thing. And no vanilla candles. I'm philosophically and psychologically opposed to vanilla candles.

But if you like vanilla, well ... I suppose we can still be friends.

To enter, just tell me either 1) your favorite candle scent, preferably from the WoW website, or 2) your favorite childhood mystery series. Random, huh? Or, you could do both! Enter twice! Tell your friends about it on Facebook, Twitter, whatever you use, and notify me here for another entry.

You have until 11:59 p.m. Sunday, May 8, Mother's Day. May the force be with you.

My favorite scent is peppermint these days. I find that it covers up the "waiting for enough cloth diapers to be dirty to justify a load of laundry" smell the best.

I am a peppermint chick these days.

As for favorite mysteries series.I'll have to think of that one. Currently the only one coming to mind was the Rescuers series by Margery Sharp. Probably not really mysteries but good adventures at least. The Westing Game by Ellen Raskins is a good one too.

I like peppermint too, but also citrus scents. I read the Happy Hollisters as a kid too! Those were ancient books with red canvas fabric covers. I haven't seen them now. I'd love to win some natural aromatherapy products!

Most definitely the "Northern Forest". I can't think of a better smell than cool forest air.

I found out a few years ago the truth about Carolyn Keene, purported author of Nancy Drew. I have to say, I hated the idea of some of my favorite childhood books coming out of an assembly line of writers. Boo.

I loved The Happy Hollisters, too! I had a set of hardbacks at one time. I should go see if those are in the box in the back of my closet.

Happy (early) Mother's Day!

The 'Citrus Harmony' sounds yummy!

You have such a sweet little blog! :)

I got hooked on mysteries when I read my first Nancy Drew mystery (same author as Hardy Boys, different pseudonym). Then I read Rebecca and got hooked on old English manor house mysteries. I even have a whole compendium of them! I think that is why I enjoy being a counselor; it's like unravelling mysteries.
fYI, It is my understanding that in the early part of the series of books for kids, it was all the same author, but after he died, now a group of authors are writing and updating the stories. See what Wikipedia has to say....

I like to match my candle scent to the season. For example, I checked out their aromatherapy section just now and I would choose rosemary or lavender for the Spring. The citrus I would enjoy in Summer. Cinnamon for Fall reminds me of apple harvest and peppermint in Winter reminds me of candy!

Mystery series were not part of my childhood. I think I was afraid "mysteries" would be scary. I'm thankful I now have a husband who clues me in about books! I recently acquired some Hardy Boys and might have to bump them up on my reading list thanks to this post.

I for one find plenty of scope for the imagination in this collective authorship thing. I like to think of them writing together in a solidly built treehouse on a drizzly September day...

Apparently I'm also missing out in the scented candle department. I own three. One was a gift, and two came with the house. Two are vanilla, and one is "fresh linen" or something. And now that you mention it, vanilla is a terrible scent for a candle. False advertising!

Moseying on over to WOW, Clear Head sounds useful. Sweet Dreams sounds intriguing.

Oh, I loved Nancy Drew when I was younger! Aimee read and few and said, with a mature air, "They're not my favorite books, because they're just so predictable." Oh well - I really enjoyed them! I think I knew that about Carolyn Keene, Frank Dixon, et al. A bit disenchanting, but reading ND is one of my cherished childhood memories.

Oh dear - I like vanilla! And there's a buttercream scent from another candle company that was my favorite for a long time. I looked at the Way Out Wax site, though, and Orange looks lovely. Or looks like it would smell lovely? I'm confusing myself...

Since I keep drooling over the candle scents at the website I guess I had better enter! :) You had me at 'peppermint.'

I was a major Bobbsey Twins fan, and Trixie Belden ran a close second, but I would have to say that my very favorite childhood mystery series was Encyclopedia Brown!

Wow another give away, awesome! Tropical citrus from their soy candle collection looks awesome...LOVE soy candles! My favorite mystery series where both Nancy Drew and the Hardy Boys.

OOo... I loved reading Encyclopedia Brown books by by Donald J. Sobol.

I also *heart* a good peppermint scented candle, and if you're vouching on this brand, I'm sold. :)

And since I don't twit'r yet, your POST has been announced on my Facebook page.

Also, a very happy Mother's day to you, Hannah! :)

The Clear Head scent sounds perfect. What Mom wouldn't love a clear head to parent with each day!

My mom had a lot of her Nancy Drew books from when she was a kid and my sister and I loved reading them and looking for the ones we didn't have at antique stores. As I got older, I loved reading Agatha Christie books, not necessarily a set, but mystery for sure!

Nobody has mentioned my favorite childhood mystery series, "The Three Investigators" by Robert Arthur, and later co-written by committee. Those books seem to have faded into obscurity nowadays, though.
Scented candles? Whatever makes my dear wife happy is fine with me. Apparently, that doesn't include vanilla candles. ;-)

Darn it, I missed the giveaway. I love the smell of lavender (even though it often makes me sneeze), citrus, and the Christmas smells. I never read a series growing up--sad, I know. Does Hunger Games count?
